The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 632 senior Police Officers who have met the criteria for the elevation.

A statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the commission’s Press and Public Relations Head, Ikechukwu Ani said the massive promotion of the officers which takes effect from March 12th, 2015, was announced by the Chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police after the case of the officers was considered at the 11th Plenary meeting.

According to the statement, 460 Officers were promoted from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to the next rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while 172 officers on the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police were elevated to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).”

Okiro said the officers “were found to have satisfied the Commission’s criteria for promotion which includes maturity on a rank, absence of pending disciplinary matter, merit and establishment budget vacancy availability.”

The chairman said that the exercise is one of the constitutional mandates of the commission to the Nigerian police.

He enjoined the promoted officers to redouble their efforts in the service of the nation and charged them to work within the rule of law and with the fear of God.
