The Kogi Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Kayode Olowomoran, has called on parents to bring the best out of their children.

Olowomoran made the call in an interview with the News Agency (NAN) in Lokja on Friday .

The commissioner said parents must take proactive measures, actions and responsibilities to ensure good future for their children.

He reiterated that parents and guardians must continually correct and guide their children even after attaining the “age of responsibility’’.

He described the age of responsibility to be the age at which children were considered responsible for the cause of their actions or inactions.

He noted that the way parents would treat and take care of their children would be quite different from the way the house help would treat them.

He, therefore, advised parents to create and spend enough time with them in spite of their tight scheduled at work.

“It is our collective responsibility as parents to take care of the wellbeing and the education of our children.

“Education goes beyond just going to school; it involves giving adequate attention to the behaviour and character of our children.

“We must endeavour to train and monitor the activities of our children in school and out of school,’’ he said.

Olowomoran stressed that parents must treat all their children equally irrespective of their strength or weaknesses.

“We must show good attitudes, equal love and affections toward all our children, no matter the differences in their gifts or intellectual abilities,’’ he advised.

Olowomoran, however, urged the children to obey and honour their parents in all things as commanded by God.
