About 10 Communities Development Associations (CDAs) in Majiyagbe Layout, Ipaja area of Lagos State has written to Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) requesting that their communities be disconnected from the national grid owing to the epileptic power supply and exorbitant estimated bills given to residents.

In a letter signed by chairmen of Majiyagbe CDA, Ifesowapo CDA, Fafunwa CDA, Olubondu CDA, Wonderland CDA, Itesiwaju CDA, Oloruntedo CDA, Ipaja West CDA, Ti Oluwani CDA and Foremost CDA under the aegis of Concerned Ipaja CDAs on Ikola Feeder, they are requesting that IKEDC disconnect the communities with effect from May 31, 2020.

“We came to this decision as a result of your inability to supply power and enforcement of estimated bills on our residents coupled with your failure to install prepaid meters to determine the consumption of electricity used. This has become imperative due to the fact that our communities have not been enjoying regular power supply for more than five years now.

“We cannot lose on both ends. We do not enjoy power supply and yet pay exorbitant bills on a monthly basis. It is our considered decision to be completely isolated from the grid so that our earned money can be channelled to other judicious and useful purposes. We look forward to your quick response, as we will not entertain any bills from your company starting from the month of June 2020.”

This is coming just as another customer of the electricity company, Miss Abosede Igologbe, residing at No. 30, Oremeji Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, has lamented what she termed an outrageous bill of N80,428.92 charged by IKEDC for the month of April for her two-bedroom flat.

She said: “I sent a message to IKEDC but they didn’t reply to me and I am surprised about how they did the calculation. I was not the only person that got this crazy bill for April but everyone on the street.”
