Community disagrees with Delta SSG over land

Protesters

The people of Ajaji in Illah, Oshimili North Council of Delta State have locked horns with the Secretary State to Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, over alleged trespassing on 533.97 hectares of their ancestral land by Norsworthy Farms and Agro Allied Limited company.

The community had protested the take-over of the land by the company but SSG was alleged to have said that the community was compensated by the private firm, adding that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was executed by the two parties as the community was a signatory to the MoU.

But the community leader, Diokpa Francis Chukwurah, claimed that Emu, who was then the chief economic adviser, lied.

He said the community was shocked that Emu, who is supposed to be an impartial arbiter, was now playing the role of public relations officer to Norsworthy firm, to the extent that the company is now using military men to intimidate them.

He said in a statement: “We challenge Dr. Emu to produce proof of payment of compensation for our trespassed 533.97 hectares of land.”
