A 35-year-old aluminum sheet contractor, Babatunji Ogunjimi, who alleged swindled a marketing agency of N6.1m, was on Wednesday charged with stealing before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused who resides at Omole Phase 2, Ikeja, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences, obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu, told the court that the accused had deliberately supplied `05mm -sized aluminum sheets to his client for a project rather than the agreed `055mm’ type.

Nnamonu said the defendant committed the offences on April 30 within the premises of Oracle Experience Company, located at No.1, Jolly St., Allen Avenue, Lagos.

“Ogunjimi , with intent to cheat his client, Oracle Experience Company, purchased 05mm-sized aluminum sheets from Tower Aluminum Company, rather than the agreed 055mm type , being fully aware that the `05mm-sized was not the standard specification that his client requested for.

“He fraudulently made away with N6.1 million for purchasing lower quality aluminum roofing sheets,” the prosecutor said.
Nnamonu said the offences violated Sections 363(1) and 364 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that an offender is liable to three years’ imprisonment.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, granted Ogunjimi bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and she adjourned the case to June 11 for trial.
