Contractors want Kwankwaso probed over alleged non-payment for projects
THE Kano State branch of Nigeria Chamber of Indigenous Contractors has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the immediate past governor of the state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for what they described as shoddy execution of many projects in the state during his tenure and non-payment for jobs executed by them.
After an emergency meeting of the association, Chairman of the group, Alhaji Auduwa Maitangaran revealed that, “even the Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo new cities were constructed by the contractors with their money.”
“Instead of him to borrow from banks or other government departments, Kwankwaso used our money and executed those projects. To the surprise of all, not even 30 percent of our payments was effected before he left government house,” he stated.
Maitangaran further revealed that 40 of their members died because of the frustration they went through due to non-payment of their contract money by Kwankwaso’s administration.
He commended the present governor of the state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for releasing N200 million to settle some of their outstanding debts.
“We are commending the current governor for giving us a helping hand to see us out of the present predicament. We requested for N100 million, but due to his magnanimity he agreed to give us N200 million,” he stated.
