A batch `B’ 2014 Corps member, Mr Opah Joseph, on Friday donated sets of uniforms and sandal shoes to 45 indigent pupils of Turaki Model Primary School in Sokoto.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Joseph donated the items as part of his community development service.

He also conducts extra mural lessons for the pupils three times a week.

Joseph said at the event that the items cost him about N130,000, adding “the gesture is aimed at alleviating the suffering of the beneficiaries.

“The gesture is also aimed at enabling the children to acquire education with relative ease as well as help in reducing the downward trend of the standard of education,” he said.

Joseph also urged wealthy Nigerians to complement the efforts of the government in funding education at all levels.

The corps member, who is doing his primary assignment with the Holy Family Catholic Cathedral in Sokoto, also said that education was the bedrock for any meaningful socio-economic development in the society.

The State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Thomas Yamma, represented by Alhaji Sani Kamba, commended the corps member for the gesture.

Yamma said the scheme was introduced to help in solving some identified problems in the respective host communities of the corps members.

On his part, the Headmaster of the school, Alhaji Aliyu Sale, described Joseph as a great source of inspiration to the pupils and staffers of the institution.
