Corps members’ welfare remains priority, says NHIA coordinator

The Acting state Coordinator of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in Adamawa state, Mallam Abubakar Lawal, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), describing the collaboration as crucial to ensuring corps members have access to quality healthcare services throughout their service year.

Lawal made the statement on Monday when he led a delegation of NHIA management staff on a condolence visit to the NYSC Adamawa state secretariat following the tragic death of three corps members in a road accident.

The deceased corps members—Jalilat Suleiman, Usman Shuaibu, and Abdullahi Dauda—lost their lives in a motor accident that occurred on June 3, 2026, along the Narehi axis of the Girei–Song road.

Describing the incident as a painful loss to the nation, Lawal expressed the sympathy of the NHIA to the NYSC family and the bereaved families. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and for strength and comfort for those mourning their loss.

“The partnership between NHIA and NYSC remains vital in safeguarding the health and well-being of corps members during their service year,” he said.

Responding, the Adamawa state coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, appreciated the NHIA delegation for the condolence visit and their show of solidarity during the difficult period.

She noted that the gesture underscored the strong relationship between both organisations and reflected their shared commitment to the welfare of corps members.

Mrs. Osoroh described the deceased as promising young Nigerians whose untimely deaths had deeply affected the NYSC family. She also commended NHIA for its continued support in providing healthcare services to corps members across the state and expressed confidence that the partnership between the two organisations would continue to thrive.
