Court convicts welder over theft of motorcycle
A 23-year-old Welder, Usman Yakubu, was on Monday sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for stealing a motorcycle, valued at N150 000.
The Senior Judge, Mr Gambo Garba, convicted Yakubu after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Garba gave the convict an option to pay a N15, 000 fine and ordered that the recovered motorcycle be returned to the owner.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court that one Badamasi Usman of Galadimawa village, Abuja, on Aug. 4 lodged the complaint at the Lugbe Police Station.
Anigbo said that the complainant saw the convict with one red coloured motorcycle on Aug 3, at about 4p.m. while he was at his mechanic workshop preparing for prayers.
He said that the convict dishonestly stole the motorcycle from a distance, not too far from Usman’s work shop and was apprehended.
He said that the convict made confessional statement, while the motorcycle was recovered from him.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287of the Penal Code.
