Court jails 6 men for causing public nuisance, unlawful assembly in Abuja

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced six men to two months imprisonment each, for causing public nuisance and unlawful assembly.

The convicts, Umar Rabiu, Hassan Sani, Madaha Sagiru, Sani Nura, Hayatu Abdullahi and Musbau Yusufu, had pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.

Sadiq, however, gave the convicts an option of N3, 000 fine each.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel, had told the court that the Life Camp Police patrol team arrested the 6 on April 20 in an uncompleted building,

He said that upon interrogation, they failed to offer satisfactory explanation about their assemblage.

Emmanuel said that the offences contravened Sections 198 and 102 of the Penal Code.
