A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has nullified the governorship primaries of the Ogun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ogun PDP held three parallel primaries, with one producing Ladi Adebutu as governorship candidate. Justice Oguntoyinbo, after nullifying the primaries, ordered a fresh exercise within a reasonable time, to accommodate all interests and groups.

The suit was filed by Prince Adesegun Seriki and three others against Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP.

Seriki and his co-plaintiffs sought the court’s explicit order to enforce their rights as the rightful and legitimate PDP candidates for the 2023 general elections in the state.

SIMILARLY, a Federal High Court sitting in Birnin Kebbi nullified the second PDP primary for Kebbi Central senatorial district, which produced Senator Adamu Aliero.

Delivering judgment, yesterday, Justice Baba Gana Ashigar contended that PDP unlawfully cancelled the primary, which the plaintiff took part in, following a purported petition written against him (Haruna Saidu Dandio) that he forged the signatures of some people in his nomination form.

Ashiga said the plaintiff was not served with the petition and that he was denied his right to free hearing before the party took the decision.

He said the cancellation was a nullity, adding that PDP could not cancel the exercise after refusing to serve him the petition written against him.
