A Jimeta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Yola on Wednesday remanded four men in a correctional facility for allegedly stealing household items worth more than N500,000.
The defendants – Helton Tajipo, 21, Sunday Tukur, 25; Denis Edwin,19, and Hassan Lawan, 28, are residents of Buranji, Jimeta in Yola.
They pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit an offence of stealing and stealing
The Chief Magistrate, Musa Adamu, ordered that the defendants be remanded to enable the prosecution present witnesses to corroborate the defendant’s plea of guilt.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 27 for possible summary trial.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt Ibrahim Umar, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Dec.29, 2024, at Jimeta in Yola.
Umar said that the defendants were arrested while trying to trespass at the house of one Mr Sinaba Ojo.
He added that during police interrogation, it was revealed that on Nov. 23, 2024, the defendants trespassed into the residence of Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman.
He told the court that the defendants stole one Apple laptop, two iPhones, one Apple tablet, clothes and other valuables from Abdulrahaman’s house.
Umar alleged that some of the stolen Items were found in the possession of the defendants.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 60, 59 and 280 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa, 2018
