KANO High Court No. 5 sitting at Audu Bako secretariat has restrained the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II from demolition or tampering with any structure in the Emir’s palace, (Gidan Rumfa), pending the hearing of motion on notice.
In ex-parte motion paper made available to media men, the presiding judge Justice Ahmed Tijjani Badamasi has restrained the defendants from giving a quit notice or evicting any person residing within the walls of the Emir’s palace, by virtue of being Yan Fulani (descendants of past Emirs) or Palace staff (Bayin Sarki), pending the determination of motion on notice.
Other co-defendants in the suit were the Emirate Council and State Attorney General.
It was one Salim Abubakar Bayero who filed a suit against the Emir challenging the power of the Emir in allegedly evicting some occupants who are housed in the palace, with the alleged intention of restructuring the palace. After helping loot the treasury, he was shielded from prosecution by his kinsmen who made him the Emir. He went underground and remained quiet for a while adding to his number of underage girls he calls wives. Recently he has been advocating the devaluation of the Naira amongst other policies that may hurt the economy further. They wanted this base fellow as their Emir and now they have to go to court to restrain him from rascality in the Emirate. They have seen nothing yet.
We will review and take appropriate action.
