Customs CG donates two-storey building multimedia centre to NIJ

Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has donated a two-storey multimedia research centre to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) to bridge learning gaps.

He made the donation in Lagos yesterday, during a special convocation for the conferment of a fellowship award on him.

“We must build the capacity of journalists and this generation of communication students. There are capacity gaps in terms of infrastructure and learning facilities. We are bringing a multi-media environment to journalists. After conducting the needs assessment, we’re putting up a two-storey building that will be a multi-media and resource centre.

“We’re giving students the opportunity to have an environment where they can practically put what they are taught into practice. We’ll be having a radio station, editing suite, production suite and where they can integrate major components of multimedia like audio, images, texts, among others,” he said.

Adeniyi, an alumnus of NIJ, added: “The recognition is a very big honour for me. It is also a personal challenge to do more.”

“Students should approach life with determination and they will come back one day and give back to the institution.”

Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council and former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, described Adeniyi as a great Nigerian who merited the honour.

Also, NIJ Provost, Gbenga Adefaye, said Adeniyi brought great transformation to Customs.

“He built bridges between the public and Customs. He understood the power of communication,” he said.
