The Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) has said it plans to implement geospatial intelligence or the automation of all border stations across the country.
This was made known in a statement following a working visit to the Customs House, Katsina State, by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone B, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, A.A.S. Oloyede.
Customs spokesperson, Bello Isah, said the initiative is part of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing corruption, and boosting revenue collection.
Oloyede said the plan is a significant step toward aligning with global best practices in border management and trade facilitation.
He stated that the process will eliminate unnecessary bottlenecks and also enhance transparency and accountability in NCS operations.
He said the state governor, Dr Dikko Radda, expressed delight over the plan, describing same as a welcome and timely development.
The governor, according to the statement, “emphasized that the initiative has the potential to significantly improve cross-border trade, strengthen security, and promote economic growth.
“We believe that this technology will be instrumental in providing valuable intelligence to enhance national security,” the governor added.
It said the project underscores the service’s commitment to embracing technology and reforming key institutions to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global trade environment.
