Danish firm partners Nigeria on oil-pollution cleaning

To ensure that the oil producing environment in Nigeria is free of pollution from toxins and free radicals emitted by the oil companies, a Danish oil firm, DESMI, has mapped out strategies to bring emergency response solutions to the country.

DESMI, which is working in partnership with its firms in Nigeria, Samdus Oil and Gas and Axflo Oil and Gas, manufactures equipment that is used to cleanse pollution from water.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos during the weekend, Managing Director, DESMI Africa Limited, Leslie Andrews, noted that the companny has partnered Samdus Oil and Gas and Axflo Oil and Gas for about eight years now.

Andrew said the firm’s business is to bring equipment into Nigeria with the partner companies supplying to the oil firms, and the independent oil companies training them on how to use the equipment.

He noted that the Danish firm is to train Nigerians as certified responders to oil emergency. Launching the event at the Danish Embassy, the Ambassador to Nigeria, Torben Gettermann, noted that the oil firm is in Nigeria to care for the host country’s environment.

He stated that the firm is in the forefront of cleaning the environment and providing green technology, adding that in terms of oil spill, DESMI Ro-Clean is a market leader with its technologically-advanced pumps.

Reiterating the cordial ties between the two countries, Gettermann stressed the important value that commercial ventures such as the one between DESMI/Ro-Clean and Samdus/Axflo play in strengthening the bilateral relations.

Andrews stated that the market research carried out since the past two years led them to conclude that the oil firms and the Nigerian government are not satisfied with the equipment just coming into the country, hence, DESMI is ready to provide full – oil service delivery.

Chief Executive Officer, Axflo Oil and Gas, Donald Brown, noted that the event, which was taken from the diplomatic and business perspectives, exposes two things: the relationship between Nigeria and Denmark and the interest of Denmark in developing the Nigerian local content.
