‘Data protection, key component of our business operations,’ Huawei’s CEO

The Chief Security Officer, Huawei Nigeria, Osita Nweze has revealed that the security or confidentiality of data or personal information of customers remains a key component of its business operations in Nigeria.

According to Nweze, the company takes very seriously the confidentiality of information from customers at its disposal and as such will do everything possible to ensure that it is not breached.

He explained further that the company places a huge priority on protecting people’s privacy such that they can securely enjoy a fully connected, intelligent world.

Expounding on the company’s processes which are being carried out in line with data protection global best practices and legislations, he added that the company has been deliberate in its approach to ensuring privacy protection for its customers.

Stating that both internal and external audits carried out revealed that it has been systematically and effectively embedded in the company’s operations, Nweze said that “As an organisation, we do what we call privacy by design/default. This means that we incorporate privacy protection requirements into all business processes and activities.”

He maintained that beyond the rules and regulations set by government agencies, the company has been working with industry and partners in exploring ways that can be deployed to overcome digital world privacy challenges so as to build a common understanding.

To this end, he highlighted that the company was certified professionally and has conducted a series of awareness training for its workforce to improve professional privacy protection capabilities.
