Four states have so far weighed in on the 2016 race for the White House: Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.
Here are the key upcoming political dates, from primary debates and statewide caucus votes to national conventions and the big day on November 8:

23: Nevada Republican caucus
25: Republican debate in Houston, Texas
27: South Carolina Democratic primary

1: “Super Tuesday” contests in several states including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia.
3: Republican debate in Detroit, Michigan
5: Kansas caucuses, Kentucky Republican caucus, Louisiana primaries, Maine Republican caucus, Nebraska Democratic caucus
6: Maine Democratic caucus, Puerto Rico Republican primary. Democratic debate in Flint, Michigan

12: Washington, DC Republican convention

Absentee or in-person early voting is expected to begin in several states
26: First presidential debate at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio
October
4: Vice presidential debate at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia
9: Second presidential debate at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri
19: Third and final presidential debate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
November
8: Election day, established by law as the Tuesday following the first Monday in November
