Davido withdraws from London concert, blames promoters

Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming concert scheduled for July 3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, citing unresolved disagreements with the event promoters.

The singer made the announcement on Saturday via his Instagram story, where he disclosed that key aspects of the show’s organisation had not met the standards necessary to proceed with the performance.

“Over the past few weeks, I have extended my full support and professionalism to The Necto Future Group, promoters of @iconicpresents, with the sincere intention of delivering a performance that meets the high standards my fans deserve,” Davido said.

He added that while fan response and ticket sales had been strong, he could not ignore what he described as “major misalignments regarding the event’s execution.”

“Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales, there have been major misalignments regarding the event’s execution, particularly concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance,” he said.

Davido said the decision to cancel was not made lightly, but was necessary to preserve the standard of his brand and the experience he promises his audience.

“Unfortunately, these issues remain unresolved. As a result, I regret to inform you that I will no longer be performing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 3,” he stated. “Please note, the show still holds, but without Davido.”

The artist clarified that his decision was not related to low turnout or fan engagement, but to protect the quality of his performance and the values he represents.

“This decision is not a reflection of turnout or support; it is a matter of principle and respect for my craft, my fans, and the culture I represent,” he said.

Davido confirmed that the rest of his summer tour remains unaffected.

“London, I’ll see you guys soon, I promise! The rest of the shows this summer are still happening. 5ive is still alive! See you guys in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada and the US,” he added. “Africa must be respected.”
