A chapter of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) was on Wednesday inaugurated at the Debt Management Office (DMO) after 16 years of establishing the Agency.

The National President of NUBIFIE, Mr Danjuma Musa, led other executive members to inaugurate a caretaker executive union at DMO headquarters in Abuja.

The 13-man caretaker executive has Obinna Ogwuegbu and Alfred Ekiye as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively.

Others include, Paul Adekunle who is to serve as the Secretary of the union, and Ruth Dalongi as Treasurer.

Mr Muhammmed Sheikh, National Secretary of the union, expressed delight over the development, describing it as “dawn of a better welfare for members’ staff of DMO”.

Sheikh urged the new executive of the union to work in harmony and understanding with management to take the Agency to higher heights.

“It is a step in the right direction to inaugurate this chapter of our noble union (NUBIFIE) after 16 years of the organisation’s existence.

“No matter what had happened in the past that made the employees here to work without an umbrella union, we are happy that a new day has come.

“We want the caretaker executive to use this opportunity in building better working relationship between its members and management.

“They should work together and never use this as platform to create disaffection and rebellion,” he advised.

While responding on behalf of the new executive, the new chairman Obinna Ogwuegbu pledged commitment to selfless service.

He urged the Management of DMO to see the executive as partners in progress in order to build a stronger organisation.

“The union is for the interest of its members, who are first the employees of the organisation.

“We are ready to work with management for the common interest of everybody in the spirit of unity,” he said.
