A socia-politcal group, the Oodua Progressive Youth League (OPYL), has appealed to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to urgently intervene in the crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the party following the conduct of the state congress despite a subsisting restraining order issued by a Federal High Court.
The youth group, while expressing concern over the development, warned that failure to address the situation could push the party into a deeper internal crisis, which it said could also affect the party’s electoral fortunes in the state.
In a statement yesterday and signed by its Chairman, Olawale Abdulwaheed, the group emphasised that the decision of the state chapter to proceed with the congress amid a valid court injunction had generated widespread tension and uncertainty among party members.
Abdulwaheed also stressed that the internal disputes arising from the congress had heightened tensions among party stakeholders.
Meanwhile, elders of the APC in the state have praised the judiciary for its timely intervention in stopping the scheduled state congress.
In a statement, the Coordinator of the APC Elders Movement for Tinubu, Agboola Kelly, praised the judiciary’s action as a necessary safeguard for justice, fairness, and internal party democracy.
He said that the court’s intervention helps preserve the party’s stability, prevents further escalation of intra-party conflicts, and aligns with efforts to maintain unity in support of President Tinubu’s vision and the APC’s broader objectives.
The elders said the court’s decision is a crucial step toward upholding due process and ensuring that party processes reflect genuine inclusivity and transparency.
This is coming after the national secretariat of the party distanced itself from the state congress of the party held on Tuesday in Ondo State.
According to the party, the decision was based on the need to comply with the ex parte order of the court that restrained it from conducting the exercise in the state.
National Secretary of the party, Ajibola Bashiru, revealed this while appearing on Arise Television, saying that the APC will not flout any order of the court.
