Del-York Creative Academy graduates 100 best talents in Lagos

The Del-York Creative Academy (DCA) in partnership with the Lagos State government under the auspices of the Lagos Creative Industry Initiative (LACI) recently graduated 100 best talents.

It is an initiative, which is about developing the skills of African filmmakers and the growth of the African Film Industry by giving them the tools and skills necessary to increase the number of professional talents the continent has to offer, with an aim to develop technical skills in storytelling.

The academy, which help to develop skills, has taught the students courses in screenwriting, editing, music video production, sound design and film scoring, directing, drone technology and others too numerous to mention.

According to the Chief Executive Officer /Founder of Del-York Creative Academy, Mr. Linus Idahosa, the vision behind this initiative is to build a new generation of creative filmmakers and broadcast journalists across the country and continent of Africa by ensuring they have the best hands from all over the world, sharing their experiences and exchanging lessons.

He said: “The industry is quite large. So, we want our students to plug into the different spheres of our creative industry.

In an industry that so desperately need it and has so much potentials to change not only the life of young people, but to influence change in different spheres of the society.

We want our graduating students to be an example of what is possible. Also, to use their stories to shape the lives of people around them.”

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Pharm. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said: “Without the creative industry, there is no state. There is so much that can be done with creativity. Creativity can be used to solve problems. That is what the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had seen and investing in seriously. One of the investment is what bring up the best 100 new talents that has been discovered in Lagos State. We are excited to be part of the success stories.”

The Chairman of Choice International Group (CIG), Chief Diana Chen, said: “We’ve sponsored DCA in the last three years, we have seen the way they grow and made great effort to bring world-class services. They have given the graduating students excellent training.”

Lead lecturer at DCA, Mr. Grant Housley, who has been with Del-York Creative Academy for the past 12 years and watched every single programme grow to the place it is today, said it’s been a great journey and he is so proud to be given the opportunity to be here and experience it every time.

Housley also believes the students have learnt enough to make them advance in their careers.

“My expectations for these graduating students is to see them very happy because they went through intense training and they made a lot of effort.

I’m looking forward to seeing them take a breath and realise how the work they’ve done pays for them in the future,” he said.
