Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State have rejected the chairmanship of Prophet Jones Erue.

They disclosed this in a communiqué by Alex Onwudiamu at the end of a meeting in Asaba, the state capital.

The leaders described Erue’s inauguration by the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, as illegal and unconstitutional.

The stakeholders condemned Oshiomhole’s harmonisation of the state executive committee and urged him to work with the team led by Cyril Ogodo.

They explained that the Ogodo executive committee participated in the national convention that elected him as the national chairman.

He said: “Erue was not a product of the party’s congress,” describing his swearing-in as “repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience.”

According to the communiqué:
“The purported moves by the Erue-led state executive to pretend to be reconciling aggrieved members and a group of people who never contested elections, is a smokescreen. It is preparatory to his working for the state ruling party, (PDP) as he had also done in time past.

The leaders insisted that the state congress of May 21, 2018, which elected Ogodo remains valid.

They stressed that it is a subject of any litigation or consent judgment, especially as the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun had sworn him in on June 4, 2018.”

The APC leaders also passed a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari and endorsed him for a second term.

The stakeholders met at the home of the Executive Director of Project, EDP, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Adjogbe, in Evwreni, Ughelli North Local Council Are, where they commended Buhari for the commission’s performance.

The motion endorsing Buhari was Sam Kowho moved the motion to endorse Buhari, and was seconded by Ejaita Odjugho.

At the meeting, about 3,000 people defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including a former women leader of the party, Mrs. Florence Akpoyibo Ayomanor.

Welcoming the defectors on behalf of the APC, Adjogbe said: “We don’t want people that will come here today and leave tomorrow, as we must be dedicated to the service of mankind. That is the only way that we can continue the change in the Niger Delta through the Niger Delta Development Commission.”
