Delta lawmaker’s mother regains freedom from kidnappers’ den

Ma Ekpongbolo Preyor, mother of the lawmaker representing Bomadi constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Kenneth Oboro Preyor, has been released by her abductors around 8:30p.m. on Sunday, after spending two weeks in the den of her abductors.

Ma Preyor, aged 82, was abducted from her residence at Kpakiama community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State by the dreaded militant group at Ndoro community.

The octogenarian, however, has already been rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Asaba, the state capital, for medical attention.

Also, six other kidnapped victims from Ogriagbene community, country home of Senator James Manager in Bomadi, who were taken hostage by the same kidnap gang, were released.

Confirming the news to newsmen on phone, aide to the lawmaker, Mr. Richard Koki, said: “Yes, mama has been released. She was released to the government team led by myself with other political aides. We went to the creeks near Kalafiogbene community where they agreed to release her to us.

“We have also released Kareowei’s mother, Mrs. Warefiniere Agbe, who was under security custody to her family according to the understanding reached with the kidnappers.

We did not pay any ransom; we only fulfilled our promised of releasing his mother to him, according to our agreement.”

There was wild jubilation at Kpakiama community when the news of Ma Preyor’s release filtered into the community, with drinking and dancing all through the night, as the news coincided with the nation’s 57th Independence celebration.

Naotu Preyor, younger brother to the lawmaker, said: “I thank God for my mother’s freedom from her kidnappers and I thank everybody who may have played one role or the other in the final release of my mother.”

In his reaction, the Bishop of Bomadi Vicariate of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Hyacinth Egbebo, said: “It is good news. I urge our political leaders to do the needful to re-orientate these boys; they should not use the boys in a wrong way. We are all in trouble because most youths have resorted to making quick money by venturing into all sorts of unwholesome activities.”
