The Delta State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Asaba, the state capital, yesterday, nullified the election of James Manager, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The Delta State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Asaba, the state capital, yesterday, nullified the election of James Manager, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Immediate past Governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for that election, Emmanuel Uduaghan, had in a petition filed by his lawyer, Thomson Okpoko (SAN), told the tribunal that the February 23 National Assembly election in the district was marred by massive rigging and other irregularities and therefore, prayed the panel to cancel the election and order a fresh one.

In its judgment, the election tribunal, after looking at all arguments, promptly canceled the election and ordered a fresh one within 90 days.

Also, the tribunal has upheld the election of the Deputy Senate President and the lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Evelyn Oboro, had filed a petition challenging the victory of Omo-Agege, the APC candidate.

In a unanimous judgment, the panel dismissed Oboro’s petition on the ground that the petition lacked merit and the petitioner could not prove her case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Meanwhile, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has expressed gratitude to the people of Delta Central Senatorial District and all Nigerians for their unwavering support.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yomi Odunuga, Omo-Agege expressed his resolve to diligently offer selfless service towards the betterment of his constituency and the nation as a whole.

The statement read: “While many have emphatically maintained that the suit was unnecessary in view of thousands of votes in his favour and an unwavering support for his re-election as Senator representing the Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Omo-Agege has appealed for continued unity of purpose towards ensuring positive impact on the lives of the people who voted for him to ensure qualitative representation at the Senate…”

He also urged his constituents to forgive all unjustified accusations of the past and embrace his call for unity of purpose, as much needs to be done towards the realisation of his vision for genuine change and development.
