Delta/USAID water project kicks off
Delta State government and United States Agency for International Development, (USAID) have flagged off block mapping and customer enumeration with FullPlan Associates for Ogwashi-Uku water headwork.
The 15 enumerators that were commissioned for Ogwashi-Uku, with those in other zones are to, within the five-week exercise, capture information of no fewer than 65,000 customers from the 10 zones mapped out for the first phase of the state Urban Water Corporation.
In his address, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Martin’s Okonta, who pleaded with community leaders to help the field enumerators by sensitising their people on the need to cooperate, said the exercise is starting with areas already covered with pipes.
The commissioner, represented by the General Manager, Delta Urban Water Corporation, Engr Nosa Okoh said: “The exercise is to help the Water Corporation to know how to locate their costumers, the quantity of water they will be able to produce and how much revenue they will be generating.”
The Chief Executive Officer, Fullplan Associates, Prof. Bola Ayeni, said the project was bound to make a difference in areas of income generation, healthcare and data collation for the state.
