Delta varsity reads the riot act to cultists

Delta State University

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta (UNIDEL) Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, over the weekend, matriculated 4,500 exceptional students into diverse disciplines and warned them against cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and other social vices, or they would face dismissal from the institution.

Chiemeke said during the matriculation, held at the main campus in Agbor, Ika North council of the state, that cultism has no place at UNIDEL and implored those who are members of any secret cult to renounce their affiliation immediately.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy toward cultism, examination malpractice, and indecent dressing. The university is not a battleground for violence or secrecy; rather, it is a sanctuary for knowledge and personal growth.

“Therefore, we will not hesitate to take strict disciplinary action against any student found engaging in these unpleasant activities,” warned the VC, who reminded students that an association with cultism often leads to irreversible consequences, as the bonds are shallow and ultimately result in isolation, violence, and, sadly, in some cases, death,” she said.

Prof. Stella Chiemeke strongly opposed examination malpractice, saying, “It will not be tolerated in this institution even though we are privileged to admit an additional 750 students this year compared to last year.”

The VC therefore tasked the students to be hardworking and persevere in seeking genuine knowledge, saying that cheating undermines the values of the hard-earned degrees they labour for, after all.

She assured the parents and guardians of the students that “your young scholars will receive not only a world-class education but also the moral and ethical grounding necessary to become responsible and engaged citizens.”

Prof. Chiemeke also advised the new students to “actively participate in extracurricular activities, join clubs, societies, and organisations that resonate with your passions and interests,” noting that the experience gained will equip them with skills that extend beyond the classroom.
