As Nigeria marked Democracy Day amid growing concerns over insecurity and other national challenges, members of the Green Assembly Initiative, on Saturday, staged a peaceful protest in Abuja to reaffirm their faith in the nation’s democratic ideals and future.
Speaking during the protest, the leader of the initiative, Ambassador Duke Alamboye, expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity across the country.
He cited ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to advance the proposed state police initiative as evidence of the administration’s determination to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and safeguard lives and property.
Alamboye also sympathized with the families of recently abducted pupils and teachers, assuring them that the government is actively working to secure their release and reunite them with their loved ones.
Also speaking at the event, Barry Avotu urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to refrain from spreading fake and unverified information.
He noted that the dissemination of false narratives undermines national unity and hampers the efforts of security personnel on the frontlines combating terrorism and banditry.
Avotu called on citizens to verify information before sharing it and to support security agencies in their efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
The protest concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to national unity, peaceful coexistence, and support for initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and enhancing national security.
