THE Bauchi State government has warned commercial banks operating in the state that it would no longer tolerate the lackluster services being provided to its citizens.

The Deputy Governor, Mr. Nuhu Gidado, who gave the warning yesterday at an unscheduled meeting with the Branch Manager of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the state, said that despite operating a total of 17 branches within the metropolis, commercial banks in the state have failed in their responsibility to effectively serve their customers.

He stated that apart from the security threats posed by the clusters of people at the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), most of the commercial banks’ ATMs in the state were either loaded with insignificant amount or were not functional.

The deputy governor further said that apart from the undue embarrassment caused to prospective customers due to inept services provided by these banks, a large number of the ATMs were not loaded.

He said that in view of this, the state government would no longer close its eyes while the banks continue to subject its citizens to unnecessary long hours on the queue.

He, therefore, threatened that appropriate action would be taken to address the issue.

Responding, the Branch Controller of the CBN, Alhaji Musa Mohammed, who pleaded with the government to give them time to ratify the situation, gave assurance that the anomalies would soon be solved.
