Disturbed by the crisis that followed the recently-concluded primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, the party’s stakeholders have set up a reconciliation committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, to woo and reconcile all aggrieved aspirants and their followers within the party.

Seven out of eight aspirants of APC had boycotted the primary held on January 27, 2022 over alleged shoddy conduct of the exercise, which was won by the immediate past Secretary to State Government (SSG), Mr. Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the APC stakeholders, the reconciliation committee would be replicated at both the local council and ward levels to reconcile members who felt bitter by the outcome of the shadow election.

This was contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the party’s stakeholders meeting held at the weekend in Ado Ekiti, which was signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Segun Dipe and two others.

According to the communique, the party also discussed issues bordering on the forthcoming national convention of the APC and the June 18, 2022 governorship election in the state and the need to see the ongoing voters’ registration exercise as an opportunity to boost the voters’ strength in their different communities.

The forum lamented the alarming rate of uncollected voter’s cards and enjoined those who have yet to collect their PVC to go to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office and collect them, noting that registration without collection of PVCs was a fruitless exercise.

“The APC stakeholders noted that the last party primary of January 27, 2022 was peaceful, without any bloodletting. That the unity of APC in Ekiti State is sacrosanct and all party members were encouraged to work together as a team and shun any act that can cause disunity.

“The forthcoming election is not about Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji but about the good of the people and Ekiti State in general. Therefore, all party members must see the forthcoming election as their personal project and all hands must be on the deck.

“That the performance of the incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi is the impetus for the party’s campaign while marketing the party’s candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for the general election with the promise to continue the present good work of Governor Fayemi.

“Party faithful are enjoined to show more commitment to party’s activities, especially at the ward level. Regular weekly ward meetings must be observed to propagate the good work of Governor Fayemi and the prospect of Oyebanji at the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” the communiqué stated.
