A member of the House of Representatives representing the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Hon. Daniel Asama, has described the state as peaceful despite recent attacks.

He also praised the Appeal Court’s judgement affirming his victory in the bye-election as a commitment to justice and the will of the people.

Addressing journalists in Abuja following the ruling on Friday, the lawmaker assured his constituents of effective representation, focusing on development and legislative progress for the country.

Despite various forms of violence in Plateau, including clashes between farmers and herders, inter-communal conflicts, and ethno-religious violence, Asama stated that the state and federal governments, along with security agencies, are taking measures to ensure peace.

Gunmen recently attacked Kwatas and Daffo communities in Bokkos Local Government Area, killing seven people. However, Asama stressed ongoing efforts to mitigate the crisis, including meetings between herders and farmers.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld the National Assembly Election Tribunal’s judgement, declaring Hon. Asama of the Labour Party (LP) the winner of the bye-election for Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency.

“I express my gratitude to God Almighty, the people of Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, and Plateau State for their unwavering support. I commend the judiciary for upholding justice and the will of the people. I dedicate this victory to God and the people of my constituency, and I appreciate Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his support of democratic values,” Asama said.

He also thanked his legal team for their hard work and called on his opponent to accept the outcome and work together for the progress of their Federal Constituency.
