Delta State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Apostle Dr. Sylvanus A. Okorote has cautioned against another economic recession.

Okorote gave the warning in a statement at Oleh Township Stadium, Isoko South Local Council Area of the state, during the 2018 CAN Day celebration.

According to him, the time has come for Nigerians to resist the onslaught of the devil and say no to insurgency, herdsmen’s invasion, islamisation, nepotism and tribalism.

He further warned that devaluation of the naira, further increase in fuel price, unprecedented inflation and lopsided appointments, could lead to another economic recession in Nigeria.

He said the theme of the day: “Contend for the Faith” was taken from Jude Chapter 3.

The cleric declared that this is also the time to pray for positive change at the centre, contend for the faith and be proactive, to ensure that sponsors of evil are cast out with the little weapons in our hands.

Okorote advised that with the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs): “You must defend the faith by praying for the David of Nigeria to appear, because where your prayer is, there your vote should be.”

He urged Christians not to sell their votes, noting that it is sale of faith and freedom.

“To successfully contend for the faith, the church must learn to speak with one voice, as united we stand, divided we fail,” he said.

The clergyman called on Christians to pray for God to release Leah Sharibu and others held in Boko Haram captivity.

He said the theme of this year’s celebration could not be more appropriate than for a time like this when Christians and pastors are being hunted, kidnapped and killed night and day.

He expressed concern that these were happening under a Federal Government that is either powerless, or reluctant to tackle the genocide.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa commended CAN in the state for organising the event, noting that when Christians live holy life, they will be able to contend for the faith.

Okowa urged Christians to continue to pray for Nigeria, noting that herdsmen are everywhere, but with the power of God, they would contend against the evil.

Government officials, clergymen from across the state, traditional rulers and civil society groups, men, women and youths from Isoko nation attended the forum.
