LAGOS State government, in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), has begun training on operation and maintenance of the Lagos solar project for public schools and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), just as mobile devices manufacturer, TECNO Mobile, yesterday flagged off its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, targeted at providing solar powered street lights across Nigeria.
The CSR initiative, which began in November 2015 after it received approval from Lagos State government, began with lighting up the Ikeja computer village, with the aim of fostering a better business atmosphere and security in and around the electronics market at night.
According to the Managing Director, Tecno Nigeria, Chidi Okonkwo, “in the past, we’ve seen streetlight projects fail but this particular streetlight project cannot fail because we know to what extent the use of substandard materials and quack engineering can damage brilliant ideas and dent a company’s image taken years to build. To avoid this pitfall, we have used the best solar-power materials for this project.”
