DHQ reacts to US security advisory, says Abuja will be kept safe

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has responded to the advisory issued by the United States Embassy in Abuja, warning its citizens to avoid military bases and government facilities in the nation’s capital.

The US advisory, released today, June 23, 2025, cited heightened global security concerns as the reason for this caution.

The Defence Headquarters’ response was conveyed by Defence spokesman, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, during a phone chat with The Guardian.

According to Gusau, this is not the first time such an advisory is coming from the US Embassy.

Addressing the alarm raised head-on, he said: “The Armed Forces, along with other security agencies, will continue to make Abuja and other parts of Nigeria safe.”

The US Embassy’s advisory has triggered apprehension in the FCT, as many workers today raced home before dark.
