Dickson calls off campaign for Alamieyeseigha
THE official flag-off of the governorship campaign of Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, which was to kick off on Saturday in Yenagoa, the state capital, has been postponed in honour of the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Dickson has also condemned the controversies surrounding the former governor’s death, calling on sons and daughters of Ijaw ethnic extraction at home and abroad to remain peace-loving.
The governor, who made the announcement during a special media broadcast in Yenagoa, rued the loss of Alamieyeseigha, saying that his government was determined to give the departed a befitting state burial.
“The state government is determined to accord him a befitting state burial. In this regard, a high-powered burial committee led by the Deputy Governor has been constituted. This committee will work out details of the programme,” Dickson said.
