The Advocacy for Civil Justice and Human Rights (ACJHR) has expressed optimism over the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), describing his emergence as a timely development that will usher in a new era of long-awaited reforms in the Nigeria Police Force.
Led by Barr. Elozie Umegwa, the group said Disu’s professional track record, operational experience, and commitment to discipline position him as a capable leader ready to reposition the Force in line with global best practices.
ACJHR noted that the appointment of Disu comes at a critical time when Nigerians are yearning for improved security, enhanced professionalism, and greater accountability within the policing system.
According to the group, the Acting IGP has demonstrated competence in various commands and assignments, earning the confidence of both his colleagues and members of the public.
They expressed confidence that under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force would witness meaningful reforms aimed at strengthening internal discipline, improving officers’ welfare, and deepening community policing initiatives.
The group further urged officers and men of the Force to rally behind the new Acting IGP and support his reform agenda in the interest of national security and public trust.
ACJHR also called on the Federal Government to provide the necessary support and resources to enable Disu to effectively carry out his mandate, emphasizing that sustainable reform requires institutional backing and political will.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the police leadership to promote accountability, human rights compliance, and citizen-focused policing across the country.
