DJ XGee buried in Lagos as Kaffy advises on managing depression
Popular Lagos-based disc jockey, DJ XGee, who committed suicide on Wednesday following reported marital problems, has been buried at Ikoyi Cemetery, Lagos. Close family members and friends attended the private interment, which took place yesterday.
DJ XGee, real name Seun Omogaji, reportedly drank Sniper insecticide on Wednesday shortly after he wrote a disturbing note on Instagram. The puzzling post got his followers worried.
The deceased who wedded in 2013 became popular while understudying famous DJ Jimmy Jatt.
He recently performed at gigs that included Wande Coal’s concert as well as Basket Mouth’s Lords of the Rib Comedy Festival in October last year, and was reported to have performed at Olowogbogboro Carnival in Lagos a day before his death.
A fan with the username, Kufakaceo, wrote: “What could have gone wrong with this guy? You still made us happy on New Year day at the Olowogbogboro Carnival. Why now?”
This has since raised concerns about the growing rates of depression in Nigeria just as Kafayat Shafau-Ameh, a popular Nigerian dancer known as Kaffy, revealed how she won the battle when she was depressed. In a post on her Instagram page yesterday, she advised Nigerians not to believe the display of wealth on social media, urging her fans to instead get back to their hustle and overlook the highly enticing falsehoods that have dominated social media platforms.
“I faced depression, I battled it and I won. You can win. The first thing to do is not to let people define your happiness. We all have our races, our paths are different,” she wrote.
“First-to-do doesn’t mean last-man-standing. If anyone runs past you; does better than you; or has anything you want to have, just wave and say ‘I will catch up later’. Don’t be in a hurry. Do you want to be pressured by the same people that do make-believe? The best time to ‘get our hand dirty’ is now. Get back to your hustle, run your race and avoid being pressured by anyone.”
