DMAIA opens campus hospital, awards scholarships, secures U.S. partnership in first year

The Divine Mercy American International Academy (DMAIA), a newly founded secondary school in Ochicha, Obike Ngor Okpala, Imo State, has announced a series of major developments in its first year of operation, including the commissioning of a campus-based medical facility, the award of 85 student scholarships, and a formal partnership with Lincoln University in the United States.

The Divine Mercy Medical Center, now operational on the academy’s premises, is designed to provide immediate access to healthcare for students. According to school administrators, the on-site facility is intended to promote student welfare by ensuring timely and professional medical care within the school environment.

As part of its commitment to education access, the institution has awarded 85 scholarships to students. The initiative is part of the academy’s founding objectives to identify and support academic potential while promoting inclusive learning.

DMAIA also announced the establishment of an academic partnership with Lincoln University, USA. School authorities said the collaboration aims to provide students with future opportunities for global academic exchange and broaden their educational prospects beyond national boundaries.

The academy’s curriculum is aligned with the Nigerian National Policy on Education and includes a comprehensive mix of core subjects—English, Mathematics, and Sciences—alongside STEM-focused courses in ICT and Design Technology. It also offers Trade and Entrepreneurship subjects, Humanities such as History and Geography, as well as Culture and Creative Arts. The school’s language offerings include Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, and French.

DMAIA was founded by a Catholic priest and operates under the governance of a board that includes academics based in the United States. The institution features a full range of infrastructure to support academic and extracurricular activities, including science laboratories, a library, dormitory accommodations, sports facilities, and CCTV-monitored security systems.

The academy’s boarding program emphasizes structured living, with the aim of fostering independence, self-discipline, and character formation among students. Staff-student interaction is designed to create a supportive community environment. Meal services are provided by an in-house kitchen and tailored to meet dietary requirements.

According to school representatives, DMAIA’s objective is to provide a comprehensive education that supports personal development and prepares students for global engagement.
