A popular doctor, Richard Okoye has donated N1 million to show support to the 12-year-old boy hospitalised over missing “small intestine” at the State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
Okoye who is the President, Doctors SaveALife Foundation, expressed sympathy towards the condition of the boy and his mother, while stating that the issue of alleged stealing of intestines should not be swept under the carpet.
The revered doctor, also made a shocking revelation that it was impossible for the intestine to be missing.
Okoye stated this on Saturday while explaining the possible things that might happen to the boy who was said to be operated on for appendix.
Recall that a viral video on social media showing the mother speak on her frustrations and alleged that the intestines of her son went missing after an operation in a private hospital in Lagos, even as a professor in LASUTH was said to have confirmed the missing intestine.
The video greeted various reactions with many believing that his intestine might have been stolen in the private hospital where he was formerly operated on.
The Lagos State governor, Babajide Saneo-Olu, waged into the matter after several backlashes from people and assured that everything would be done to save the boy.
Meanwhile, Okoye decried the level at which Nigeria’s health care was being degraded, adding that the detrimental effects of Nigerians’ response towards seeking professional attention in hospitals will dwindle if the impression is not rectified.
“Nobody can do an intestine implant for few hours. It will decay. The boy might have had a leaking intestine which has primarily affected his body system and caused some of the parts that was formerly operated on to decay,” he said.
