The second episode of the acclaimed Fuji documentary series, Women of Fuji, will be screened on June 25, 2026, at the North Campus Assembly Hall of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

Produced and directed by Professor Saheed Aderinto, a filmmaker and Professor of History and African and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, United States, the documentary continues his effort to document the cultural and historical evolution of Fuji music. Aderinto, winner of the 2023 Dan David Prize—widely regarded as the world’s largest history prize—brings scholarly depth and cinematic precision to the project.

The Fuji documentary series debuted with Mr Fuji, Barry Wonder, a tribute to the late Fuji music icon, Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. Premiered in 2024, the film was subsequently screened across cinemas, tertiary institutions in Nigeria and the diaspora, and digital platforms.

One of its notable screenings was held at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, during the tenure of the late Dr. Kehinde Faniyi, then Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies. The event attracted dignitaries from Ibadan and across Oyo State, including High Chief Kola Balogun, and was widely described as both educative and entertaining.

The second episode, Women of Fuji, first premiered on March 8, 2026, at J. Randy Event Centre, Lagos. It highlights the contributions of women to Fuji music, profiling their roles as cultural custodians, innovators and influential voices in a genre traditionally dominated by men.

Through narratives centred on motherhood, love, marriage and gender relations, the documentary examines how women have used Fuji music as a platform to communicate social messages, challenge societal norms and assert their place within the tradition.

A Yoruba saying featured in the documentary underscores its thematic depth: “Eni bimo funni, oyato si ale eni”, loosely translated as a woman who bears a child for a man outside wedlock cannot be compared to a concubine.

The Ibadan screening is being held in honour of the late Dr. Kehinde Faniyi. It will be hosted by the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, Femi B. Adedokun, while the Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Professor Taiwo Lasisi, will serve as chief host.
