TO stem the tide of abuses against children, especially the girl-child, the Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development, (NCWD), Lady Onyeka Onwenu, has called on states that are yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act to expedite action on the process.
Onwenu made the appeal, recently, during the Centre’s Annual Women and Girls Summit in Abuja. Themed Empowerment and Training: Innovating for Girl-Child Education, the summit is to commemorate the International Day of the Girl-Child.
She said the theme was chosen as a deliberate plan in the pursuit of programmes to enhance the contributions of Nigerian women to national development.
Explaining that areas to be covered in the summit include developing strong girl-child education policy, peace building and streamlining economic empowerment, among others, she said the event would provide a platform for high level dialogue on issues affecting the girl-child.
