Professor Angelicus Onasanya has called for a sovereign national conference (SNC), which will bring about restructuring that the country needs to overcome its current challenges.

Onasanya made the disclosure at the University of Lagos, weekend, during the presentation of his book, Nigeria Is A Lie: A British Lie That Must Be Finally Structured.

According to him, the country has been on an adventure of strategic orientation borne out of years of deceit, indecision and outright refusal to confront both lies and truths of existence.

He noted that the role the British played in the nation’s history was solely for selfish reasons.

“All they want is to fully exploit Nigeria’s resources, to get their money back. They do not have anything to do with the country coming together and, as Tafawa Belewa said, the unity of Nigeria is a British intention, not a Nigerian intention. What I am agitating for in the book is for the Nigerian intention to emerge,” he said.

To him, the British made the Oba, Sultan, Obi, Emir, Obong, Amyanabo and so on custodians of the people’s sovereignties to sign up some of the sovereignty to them. “Nobody gave the British the right to put us in one country called Nigeria”

The book reviewer, Mohammmed Fawehinmi, noted that the country’s problems and solutions lie deeply in its constitution.

“We have so many diverse cultures, but need to have a cohesive agreement; an agreement by all Nigerians. A lot of people are seeking restructuring, but if they do not do what is written in this book, the country will still fail. Every tribe must be represented.

“In my point of view, we do not have constitution,” Fawehinmi added.
