Don’t engage in acts that will lead to emergencies, Lagos tells residents
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has enjoined residents to be safety conscious to prevent any form of emergency or disaster during this Yuletide. It also implored residents to call the state toll free emergency numbers in case of any accident or emergency, saying that the operational officers are at alert to intervene in any emergency and curtail the damages from such incidents.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Sesan Ogundeko, speaking, yesterday, at LASEMA Christmas, in Lagos, said the annual Christmas carol programme is aimed at celebrating the spirit of Christmas and to thank God for His love.
According to him, the agency did not lose a staff while on duty this year.
“It has been a fulfilled year for us at LASEMA with our staff and technical partners putting in their best to bring you a programme that captures the essence of this magical season. Christmas is a season of hope, love, and thanksgiving, where dreams come alive and hearts are filled with joy.
“As we enjoy the performances this evening, let us also remember that Christmas represents kindness, generosity, and love for one another. Christ is the reason for this Season. As we gather in celebrating Christmas, let’s not forget that in many quarters around the world, Africa, and in Nigeria, many may not necessarily know it is Christmas! Just as many may not know that we should, as Christians, always wish ourselves and others, merry Christmas!”
Ogundeko added that it is important to spread the values of Christmas and inspire everyone to make this world a better place. While noting that emergency responders work round the clock all year round, LASEMA Director of Operations and Maintenance, Mr. Olatunde Akinsanya, commended LASEMA staff for their resilience with words of encouragement to do more in the new year ahead.
The wife of the Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-olu, represented by Mrs Funmi Omotosho read the first lesson from the book of Isaiah chapter seven verses 10 to 14.
The carol programme was spiced with rendition of congregation hymns by LASEMA choristers, praise chants and song ministrations by guest artistes including Taiwo Ojodu, Jojolo Jesu and Zicomelody among others.
