
Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor and the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya have urged 62 retired and retiring Generals to be good ambassadors, urging them to propagate and sell the army in good light.
The two Service Chiefs gave the charge at the 2022 Send-Off Regimental Dinner and award night in their honour, urging them never to rest on their oars even in retirement until the security challenge in the country is brought to an end in favour of the Armed Forces and the nation.
According to the Chief of Defence Staff, the dinner signifiesthe beginning of a process where they can transition into another phase of life, where they will see things differently, giving yield to the experiences gathered over three and a half decades.
He noted that services they rendered in the Armed Forces are noble.
“So to have been a part of this noble service, the least to be done to celebrate you is this dinner.”
The COAS said this is the second edition organised to appreciate their sacrifices to their fatherland as retired and retiring Generals of the Nigerian Army.
He noted that for over 35 years, the retiring Generals have rendered services to the country and operated and traversed across the country in all theatres of operations and even across to other nations for peacekeeping where they contributed to security of those countries.
COAS said: “You have delivered very meritoriously that elevated you to Major Generals, Brigadier Generals. So for me, this is the celebration of life to appreciate and thank you as you retired beautifully.
“Don’t talk bad about Nigerian Army as retired Generals. We have been engaging some retired senior officers who are at our Resource Centre, School of Artillery, School of Infantry and across army medicals. We are willing and ready to engage you because we know the quality of what is embedded in you, what you delivered while you were serving.”
Earlier, the Chief of Administration, Nigerian Army, Major General Ogbe Wiliam Ali, while welcoming the 62 Generals, some of whom retired last year, this year, and those retiring by the end of the year, which comprises of 24 Major Generals and 38 Brigadier Generals said, the distinguished Generals, alongside their spouses, are being celebrated for their meritorious service to their motherland.
General Ali noted that the occasion was therefore a continuation of the noble innovation and the second in this series, which was initiated the noble concept in 2021 by Chief of Army Staff of giving retired and retiring Generals of the Nigerian army a memorable exits from the service.
“Such information could be used to perpetrate cyber-attacks such as smishing and vishing,” it added. According to NITDA, smishing involves sending an unsuspecting user text message(s) and asking them to click on links or provide personal information, which can be used to scam victims or to launch other attacks.
Vishing, on the other hand, entails the use of phone calls or voice messages by cyber criminals to manipulate or deceive unsuspecting recipients into revealing or giving out sensitive information, which could be used to carry out fraudulent acts. Some preventive measures: In order not to fall victim, NITDA advised WhatsApp users in Nigeria to adhere to the following: enable two-factor authentication on your instant messaging app; do not reveal personal information on your profile and do not respond to requests from untrusted or unknown contacts, asking for your data, passwords, or other verification code via messages or calls.
