Drama as two PDP reps defect to APC

There was a mild drama yesterday on the floor of the House of Representatives following the defection of two Peoples Democratic Party (Party) members, Ephraim Nwuzi and David Abel, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers, who represent Etche/Omuma and Gashaka/Kurmi/Sardauna federal constituencies of Rivers and Taraba states, in their separate letters read at plenary by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, claimed that their decision was in line with the wishes of their constituents.

They also adduced Gbajabiamila’s leadership style as reason for their decampment.

However, their judgment did not go down well with the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu and leader of the PDP caucus, Kingsley Chinda, who called on them to vacate their seats in deference to the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
