A commercial bus driver, Idris Shittu, has landed in police net over an alleged attack on a member of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, otherwise called Taskforce. The Taskforce alleged that Shittu was on Saturday arrested for an environmental offence at Ketu during the monthly sanitation.
But in the process of trying to evade arrest, Shittu, driving a Volkswagen bus with registration number XX643GX, drove the officer (Adepoju Oluwasogo) to an undisclosed location around Alapere, where the later was thoroughly beaten up.
The Chairman of the Taskforce, Olubukola Abe, said that Sergeant Adepoju Oluwasogo, who was among the security team on patrol during last January exercise around Ketu area, was later rescued from his abductor.
Oluwasogo, according to Abe, was left with a dislocated shoulder and multiple injuries on the left eye and presently receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Shittu, in his statement at the Taskforce Headquarters, Ikeja, said his action was “the work of the devil”, adding that he never intended to hit Sergeant Adepoju Oluwasogo with the iron-rod that injured his left eye and broke his right shoulder.
The Taskforce, however, appeal to all private car owners and commercial drivers to always comply with the Lagos State Traffic Laws and Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Laws.
