E-mmerx and Codefest International Limited have launched a capacity building initiative called the “Microdegree Programs – Microsoft Skills for Jobs,” to empower future tech leaders and equip Nigerians with in-demand skills needed to thrive in the digital economy, all for under $500.
The initiative is borne out of the need to urgently tackle the gap in necessary Information Technology (IT) skills leaving thousands of job opportunities unfilled in Nigeria’s rapidly growing technology sector.
At the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two companies, the Chief Executive Officer of E-mmerx, Emmanuel Kayode and Co-Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Codefest International Limited, Moss Uromtah, highlighted the critical nature of their mission.
Uromtah said as the digital economy continues to expand, the need for specialised tech knowledge is more pressing than ever, noting that the initiative seeks to equip Nigerians with the expertise needed to meet these growing demands.
“We are not just offering a programme, we are giving Nigerians a real chance to change their lives, to upskill themselves, and to fill the critical roles in the IT sector that are currently vacant. This low-cost access to world-class education is revolutionary, particularly in a market where many are eager to join the tech industry but lack the means to get started,” he stated.
He stated that the digital economy in Nigeria is flourishing, but as demand for cloud computing, data analysis, and software development continues to rise, the lack of skilled professionals has become a roadblock.
According to him, this new programme specifically addresses this need by offering specialised training in Microsoft Cloud technologies, a skill set that is highly valued locally and globally.
Adding to its appeal, Uromtah said the programme guarantees employment upon completion, noting that graduates will have the opportunity to work with companies leveraging Microsoft Cloud technologies, with employers actively seeking their newly acquired skills.
On his part, Kayode, explained that one of the programme’s most remarkable features is its affordability, noting that such training would cost around N3.5 million per participant.
He said with funding from the European Union, the cost has been reduced by over 85 per cent as participants will only need to cover 15 per cent of the total cost, making it accessible to many Nigerians eager to build a career in tech.
Kayode said the programme, backed by Finland’s KAMK University, provides students with academic credits and industry certifications recognised by Microsoft and other tech giants, giving graduates a competitive edge in the global job market.
He said the focus on practical and hands-on learning ensures that participants will be ready to contribute effectively in their new roles.
The first batch of students began training on November 9, 2024 with applications open until the end of the month.
Kayode stated that E-mmerx and Codefest are working to ensure that as many Nigerians as possible can take advantage of this opportunity.
He encouraged interested individuals are encouraged to apply and secure their place in a programme set to reshape the future of tech in Nigeria.
“This initiative isn’t just about filling jobs, it is about empowering Nigerians to take control of their futures, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to thrive in a fast-changing world. With support from KAMK, E-mmerx, Codefest, and the European Union, this programme is set to make a lasting impact on Nigeria’s tech landscape,” Kayode stated.
