Easter: Akpabio urges end to killings, calls for national healing

As Nigeria marks the Easter celebration, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called for a national rebirth anchored on love, peace, and reconciliation. He emphasized that the country is in dire need of healing from the wounds inflicted by political bitterness, religious intolerance, and senseless violence.

In a reflective Easter message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio appealed to Nigerians to look beyond personal, ethnic, and political interests and focus on the collective goal of rebuilding a united nation.

“This Easter, we must confront our shared pain with shared purpose. We must stop the bleeding — both figuratively and literally — by choosing peace over provocation, dialogue over division, and love over hatred,” the Senate President said.

He extended a solemn plea to those engaged in violent acts, urging them to abandon the path of destruction and embrace the message of resurrection — new life, new choices, and renewed hope. “Respect for human life must be our collective creed. No grievance justifies the taking of innocent lives.”

Akpabio also urged Nigerians to reach out to displaced families and victims of violence, reminding citizens that true faith is shown in how people treat others, especially in times of hardship.

“Easter is not just a celebration; it is a call to action — to live out the message of Christ by promoting healing, reconciliation, and unity in our communities,” he said.

He concluded by urging Christians to sustain prayers for national transformation and for leaders at all levels, expressing confidence that Nigeria’s best days can still be ahead.
