Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, yesterday disclosed that his administration was committed to diversifying the state’s economy, through the promotion of agriculture and harnessing of abundant solid minerals in the state.

Umahi, who made the disclosure at the on-going 27th Enugu International Trade Fair, said the state has created the enabling environment for investors wishing to invest in the state.

Represented by Speaker of the state House of Assembly,
Francis Nwifuru, he said as part of his administration’s effort in boosting the agricultural sector, a delegation had been sent to Thailand to study its modern rice production strategies, with a view to maximizing rice production in
the state, for both local consumption and export.

He appealed to both local and foreign investors to avail themselves of the opportunity at the forthcoming Ebonyi State local trade fair, which would hold from April 16 to April 30.

Earlier in her address, the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ogbaga stressed that the theme of the 27th Enugu International Trade fair, “Diversifying the Nation’s Economy, From Rectories to Coordinated Action,” is in tandem with the work-plan of her state ministry.

Based on the vast investment opportunities, the state,
had earlier held two successful seminars geared towards achieving the targeted goals and objectives of developing the potentials.

She mentioned solid mineral deposits in the state to include, salt, aluminum, uranium, granite, limestone and many others.

President of Enugu State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Ugochukwu Chime, commended Ebonyi for their continued participation in the trade fairs hosted by ECCIMA in the past, saying it was an inspiration to the chamber.

“The consistent participation of Ebonyi State in the EnuguInternational Trade Fair has remained a source of inspiration and part of our success story in the hosting of the Fair,” Chime said.
