Edeoga’s guber ticket in Enugu not in contention, says Labour Party

Edeoga

The Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State said, yesterday, that its governorship ticket is not in contention, stressing that Mr. Chijioke Edeoga remains its governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections in the state.

The party stated that the emergence of Edeoga as the party’s governorship candidate followed existing rotation arrangement in the state, which has given Enugu East Senatorial zone the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state in 2023, adding that Edeoga is best and the candidate to beat.

LP, which was reacting to social media reports that the party was yet to decide on its governorship candidate in the state, and that Edeoga might “settle for the senate ticket of Enugu East Senatorial zone,” urged the public to disregard the publications.

A statement by LP’s Publicity Secretary, Ibuchukwu Ezike, noted that there is no iota of truth in the publication, stressing, “Edeoga’s governorship candidacy is not in contention.”

The statement reads in part: “The attention of LP, Enugu Chapter, has been called to reports alleging that Edeoga is either no longer the guber candidate of our party for the 2023 general elections in Enugu or that his candidacy has not been approved by the party.

“LP wants to confirm to our members and supporters that Edeoga is the governorship candidate of the party in the state for the 2023 general elections. We are neither discussing with any other aspirants for this position nor is his candidacy having any hitches at all. We are aware that since the announcement of Edeoga as the party’s flag bearer for the 2023 governorship elections in the state, different entities and groups, who are rattled by his emergence, have been making efforts to cause confusion among our members and supporters and deceive them. “

“LP in Enugu is, therefore, issuing this statement to clarify this issue and to urge our members, supporters and the public to disregard the rumours and false publications about our party and its governorship candidate.”
